Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.
The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 separate times.
Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.
The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring early on.
However, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.
In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.
From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.
The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
